Biography
Pavel Fedorchuk was born on February 16, 1914 in the village of Ivnitsa (now Andrushevsky district of the Zhytomyr region of Ukraine ). In 1936 he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1939, Fedorchuk graduated from junior lieutenant courses [1] .
He participated in the battles of the Soviet-Finnish war, being the commander of a platoon of a separate engineer battalion of the 62nd Infantry Division of the 13th Army of the North-Western Front. On the night of February 22-23, 1940, Fedorchuk, together with his friend, foreman Boris Kuznetsov , organized a group of volunteers and blew up the Finnish two-story pillbox, which the day before, large Soviet forces tried unsuccessfully to take [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 7, 1940, for “courage and bravery shown in the battles with the White Finns,” Lieutenant Pavel Fedorchuk was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 361 [1] .
In 1941, Fedorchuk graduated from advanced training courses for command personnel. He participated in the battles of World War II. In 1946, with the rank of lieutenant colonel, he was transferred to the reserve. He lived in Moscow , led the Moscow City Department of Bread Products. He died on February 24, 1979, was buried at the Kuntsevsky cemetery in Moscow [1] .
He was also awarded two orders of the Red Banner , two orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and two orders of the Red Star , a number of medals [1] .
