Biography
Braman was born into a landowner family. After graduating from school, he studied medicine at the University of Koenigsberg . Since 1880, he served as an assistant doctor in the Konigsberg City Hospital, defended his thesis. In 1884 he went to work at the Royal Surgical Clinic in Berlin's Charite under the supervision of Ernst von Bergman . He served one year as a volunteer in the army.
In November 1887, on the recommendation of Bergman, Emperor Wilhelm I sent Brahman to San Remo to bed with a 56-year-old Frederick III, a patient with laryngeal cancer . In case of shortness of breath at the crown prince, Braman was obliged to undergo a tracheostomy. Thanks to the tracheostomy performed by the crown prince in February 1888, he was able to ascend the throne.
After eight months in Italy, Bramann returned to Berlin and continued to work with Bergman. In March 1890, he accepted the invitation of the University of Halle to head the department of surgery and the surgical clinic of the university. Brahman operated on many of Germany's top officials. Emperor Wilhelm II elevated Brahman for his services to the hereditary nobility on January 2, 1891.
