He spent his childhood and youth in the city of Kolpino (within the boundaries of Leningrad ). In the army since September 1963. In 1967 he graduated from the Kaczynsk Higher Military Aviation Pilot School . He served in the Air Force combat units (in the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany and the Odessa Military District). Since December 1973, Captain A. N. Komarov has been in reserve. In 1975 he graduated from the Test Pilot School.
In 1975-1990 - test pilot at the Tbilisi aircraft factory. He tested serial supersonic training fighters MiG-21 UM (in 1974-1980), jet attack aircraft Su-25 (in 1979-1990) and their modifications.
In 1990–2010 - test pilot of the Design Bureau named after S. Ilyushin. Conducted a large amount of testing passenger aircraft Il-114 (including its testing on the ground), a number of test work on the aircraft Il-76 , Il-86 , Il-96 and their modifications.
For courage and heroism shown during the testing of a new aviation technology, by the Decree of the President of Russia of October 10, 2003, test pilot Komarov Alexander Nikolaevich was awarded the title Hero of the Russian Federation with the award of the Gold Star medal.
Lives in Moscow.
