Biography

The son of Count Wilhelm Moritz of Solms-Braunfels (1651-1724) and Magdalena Sophia of Hesse-Homburg (1660-1720). After the death of his father on February 19, 1724 he inherited the count title. He received a decent education, but was notable for poor health and had little involvement in government affairs. Nevertheless, he successfully implemented matrimonial plans for his children, who married the representatives of the sovereign houses of Germany. Financial difficulties forced him to cede Butzbach to Hesse-Darmstadt .

On May 22, 1742, Emperor Charles VII granted the house of Solms-Braunfels the status of imperial principality .

Friedrich Wilhelm Solms-Braunfelsky was married three times. The first wife is Princess Magdalena Henrietta of Nassau-Weilburg (1691-1725), daughter of Johann Ernst of Nassau-Weilburg . They were born:

  • Magdalena Polyxena Maria Casimira (1722-1722)

On May 9, 1726, Friedrich Wilhelm married for the second time, Countess Sofia Magdalena Benigna Solms-Laubach-Utfsky, daughter of Karl Otto Solms-Laubach-Utfsky, became his wife. They were born:

The third wife of Friedrich Wilhelm was the Palatine Countess Charlotte Katarina Birkenfeld-Gelnhausen (1699-1785), the daughter of Johann Karl Birkenfeld-Gelhausen. There were no children in the marriage.
