Biography
Ivan Ganykin was born on September 10, 1915 in Moscow . He began to actively engage in boxing in early childhood, was trained in the capital's sports club Promcooperation, later renamed Spartak , where he trained under the leadership of Vyacheslav Samoilov . He achieved his first serious success in the ring in 1935, when he made his debut in the national championship and immediately won the welterweight champion title - he defeated the most experienced Leningrader Sergei Emelyanov in the final.
At the USSR Championship of 1937, Ganykin again became the best, in addition, he took part in a match with the French team, defeated the Frenchman Roger Trit , who took fourth place at the last Olympic Games in Berlin. In 1938 and 1939 he defended the title of All-Union Champion, but in 1940 he rose to middle weight and was forced to be content with silver. At the absolute championship of the Soviet Union in 1943 he defeated heavyweight Andrei Navasardov , but lost to Evgeny Ogurenkov and Nikolai Korolev . In 1944, he once again wanted to achieve a champion title, was close to first place, however, in the decisive match he lost Ogurenkov in points.
The last time Ivan Ganykin entered the ring as an active athlete in 1946. He tried to regain his leadership in the middle weight category, but at the stage of the semi-finals he was defeated by Ogurenkov, and lost the match for third place to the railwayman Vasily Chudinov. Shortly after these competitions, he decided to leave boxing - in all, he has 157 fights on his track record, 123 of which he won. In 1948, for his sporting achievements, he was awarded the honorary title "Honored Master of Sports of the USSR" and included in the number of " Outstanding Boxers of the USSR ."
He died in 1984, was buried at the Don cemetery in Moscow, a site behind the 19th Columbarium [1] .
