Aircraft

An-12B with tail number CCCP-11107 (serial number - 01347809) was released in 1971 and at the time of the events was operated by the Central Office of International Air Communications. The total operating time of the USSR-11107 was 20 359 flight hours and 6710 cycles (takeoff - landing) [1] .

Crash

The plane was supposed to fly from Novy Urengoy to Syktyvkar . Take-off was carried out towards the west during the day under good weather conditions. Having taken an executive start at the beginning of the runway, the crew turned off taxi control (to follow the aerodrome) by the front landing gear and turned on the takeoff and landing control (to follow the runway during takeoff and landing). But the pilots were not convinced that the takeoff and landing control really began to work, as a result of which the front wheels were not fixed along the takeoff direction, but at a small angle (3 °) to the right [1] .

Due to the deviation of the front landing gear, already at the beginning of acceleration along the strip the aircraft began to gradually move to the right. The crew commander tried to fend off this by completely turning the rudder to the left, but the airliner continued to deviate. The current situation required to interrupt the take-off , but the crew did not do this. The pilot-instructor on board tried to correct the situation, but it was too late. At high speed, the An-12 rolled out of the side safety lane, after which it crashed into an embankment of the taxiway, causing the main landing gear to separate. The fuel leaking out of the damaged tanks ignited, and the resulting fire destroyed the plane. But all 7 crew members on board managed to evacuate in time, and therefore did not suffer [1] .

Reasons

According to the commission, the cause of the accident was a violation by the flight crew on the preparation and execution of take-off. A contributing factor was the design flaws of the front landing gear control system. So in the RLE on the An-12 aircraft recommendations were made that did not take into account the design features of the hydraulic system for controlling the front landing gear, and the sequence for switching on the takeoff and landing control was given in violation. Also, the responsibilities of crew members before departure were not clearly indicated [1] .
