Biography
Nikolai Amani began performing in concerts as a pianist at the age of 11. The first musical training was held by Nikolai Dubasov . In 1890 he entered the St. Petersburg Conservatory in the class of Professor Stein, where he studied harmony with Anatoly Lyadov . In 1897 he graduated from the piano class of Anna Yesipova , and in 1900 - the class of composition theory by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov . He was a member of the Belyaevsky Circle .
Winner of the Chamber Music Society Award for String Trio (D-moll) op. 1 (1900). As an examination paper he wrote the cantata "Paradise and Peri" (1900). Due to health problems, in 1901 he went to Italy for treatment. In Italy, the Milanese company Ricordi published three of his piano pieces.
In 1901, his piano works were published: theme with variations of As-dur op. 3, suite op. 4, playbook op. 5.7 and 8.
Since 1902 he lived and worked in Yalta. The philanthropist Mitrofan Belyaev provided great help to the young composer, thanks to him Amani was able to publish his works. In 1903, he received an award for the choir a cappella : “It tends to be lazy noon is hot” op. 14 from the Moscow Russian Choral Society.
From 1902 to 1904 he wrote an anniversary cantata in honor of Mikhail Glinka , which was subsequently performed in Yalta after the death of the composer. Piano pieces by Nikolai Amani were orchestrated by Alexander Spendiarov and performed in Yalta and St. Petersburg.
The musical heritage of Nikolai Amani is small. An orchestral overture, in 1904 was performed in Yalta on the day of the author's funeral. Several romances and vocal and piano plays to the words of Alexei Apukhtin , Ivan Nikitin , Alexei Tolstoy , Athanasius Fet and others. There are 15 opuses in total, including an excerpt from "John Damascene" by Count Alexei Tolstoy, a ballad for bass - Borodino to the poems of M. Lermontov with dedication to Fedor Chaliapin . "Album for the Young" consisting of 12 plays.
He died on September 21 ( October 4 ), 1904 in Yalta, and was buried in the same city at the Polikurovsky Memorial [1] . In 1979, a tombstone from Crimean diorite was installed on the grave.
