Biography
Louis Fornicet Henderson was born on September 17, 1853 in the town of Roxbury, Massachusetts (now part of Boston ) in the family of attorney John Henderson and Katharina Leland. Shortly after the birth of Louis, his father, who worked in New Orleans and supported A. Lincoln’s policy, was killed and the family moved to the north. Luis Forniket studied at Cornell University , after his graduation went to Oregon . Since 1877, he taught at a school in Portland , in his spare time engaged in collecting samples of plants. In 1883, he married a teacher, Kate Robinson.
In 1889, Henderson moved to Olympia , then to Moscow , where he worked at Ida University . Since 1908 he was the first professor of botany at the University. There he founded the herbarium, which included more than 85,000 specimens, which, along with Henderson's numerous records, was destroyed during a fire in 1906. In 1911, Henderson resigned.
Since 1923, Henderson worked at the University of Oregon , expanded the herbarium of the university to 20 thousand copies. In 1939, Louis Fornicet Henderson retired.
Louis Fornichet Henderson died on June 14, 1942 .
