Timofey Karpovich Shcherbanev (November 20, 1922 - October 17, 1998) - commander of the tank and airborne company of the motorized rifle battalion of the 202nd tank brigade (19th tank corps, 4th Ukrainian Front ). Lieutenant colonel. Hero of the Soviet Union [1] .

Biography
He was born on November 20, 1922 in the village of Novo-Kherson now in the Mugalzharsky district of the Aktobe region , Kazakhstan, into a peasant family. He graduated from 10 classes. In May 1941 he was drafted into the Red Army by the Dzhurunsky RVK of the Aktobe region.
In 1941 he graduated from the Astrakhan shooting and machine gun school [1] .
In 1943 he joined the CPSU (b) [1] .
World War II
At the front - since September 1941. He fought on the Voronezh , Bryansk , Central , 4th Ukrainian fronts. Participated in battles in the territory of the Lithuanian SSR , the Latvian SSR , in the defeat of the enemy Kurland group .
He was wounded four times [1] .
Feat

Comrade Shcherbanev, commanding an assault rifle on tanks, was the first to burst on 11.4.44 in the city of Dzhankoy . With a bold and swift blow, he sowed panic in the German-Romanian garrison defending Dzhankoy. Having destroyed up to 300 enemy soldiers and officers and captured more than 200 people in captivity, he predetermined the capture of Mr. Dzhankoy by the daring and bold maneuver of his machine gunners. ... In the battle in the area of Zuya ... comrade Shcherbanov with a company of machine gunners in a short battle with the fire of their machine guns destroyed up to 400 enemy soldiers and officers. When repulsing continuous nightly counterattacks by the enemy trying to slip to Simferopol , Comrade Shcherbanev with his company repulsed all counterattacks, inflicting great damage to the enemy. Personally, he killed up to 70 enemy soldiers and officers from the machine gun. In the battles on the outskirts of Sevastopol, he ensured the fulfillment of the task.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945 for exemplary execution of the combat missions of the Command at the front of the struggle against the German invaders and shown courage and heroism, Lieutenant Shcherbanev Timofey Karpovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal [3 ] .
Post-war time
In 1948, Shcherbanev graduated from advanced training courses for officers, in 1956 - central special courses. Since 1961, Lt. Col. Shcherbanev - in stock.
He lived in Omsk . For many years he worked in the Omsk River College, and later in the Irtysh Shipping Company.
He died on October 17, 1998. He was buried in the Old North Cemetery of Omsk [1] .
