Biography

Dmitriev Ivan Sergeevich was born in 1803 in the Kherson province . Received home education [1] .

Service in the Black Sea Fleet (1811-1858)

June 15, 1814, an eleven-year-old teenager, entered the service of the shipbuilding team of the Black Sea Fleet as a Timmerman apprentice. January 1, 1821 he was promoted to Timmerman non-commissioned officer rank. Until 1827 he served in the lower ranks of the fleet. July 1, 1827 I. S. Dmitriev was renamed to conductors of the 1st class [2] . September 22, 1827 received the first officer rank - was promoted to ensign of the Marine Engineers Corps . January 23, 1829 promoted to second lieutenant . In 1833 he received the rank of lieutenant [1] .

In 1833, Dmitriev was seconded to the squadron of the Black Sea Fleet, Vice Admiral M.P. Lazarev , who at that time was in Constantinople . He was engaged in ship repair and built two marinas on the Asian shore of the Bosphorus for landing troops and artillery of Russian troops [1] . He drew the drawings of the Turkish 100-gun ship "Sultan-Mahmoud" and the frigate, built in the admiralty by American builders. He was awarded the Order of St. Stanislav 3 degrees and the Turkish gold medal [2] .

September 12, 1834 Dmitriev laid in the Nikolaev Admiralty 10-gun yacht "Arrow" (launched on April 27, 1835) [4] . In 1837, after the completion of the Severnaya Zvezda steamboat and the construction of a cargo boat , I. S. On December 6, 1847, Dmitriev was promoted to lieutenant colonel , and on September 26, 1855, into colonel of the Marine Engineers Corps [2] .

In 1855-1858, in the Nikolaev Admiralty, Dmitriev built the first Black Sea imperial 4-gun wheeled yacht-steamer "Tiger". The wooden steamer had a 400 liter steam engine . with. [14] .

In 1858, I. S. Dmitriev was transferred to St. Petersburg and appointed senior builder at the Okhten Shipyard , where he built two screw frigates: the 45-gun Oslyabya and the 54-gun Alexander Nevsky [15] .

April 1, 1860 became an inspector of shipbuilding at the St. Petersburg port with the production of Major Generals of the Marine Engineers Corps. He was temporarily sent to Arkhangelsk to repair damage to the newly released screw frigate "Relight" [2] .

In 1864 he was sent abroad to study the features of iron shipbuilding. Upon his return to Russia, on April 28, 1866, Major General I. S. Dmitriev in the wooden boathouse of the New Admiralty in the presence of Emperor Alexander II and General Admiral Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolayevich laid the wooden wheeled Imperial yacht Derzhava [14] , for the construction of which in 1870 received an award of 10,000 rubles [1] .

In 1870-1873, according to the project of A. A. Popov and ship engineers I. S. Dmitriev and N. Kuteynikov , the world's first ocean-going armored cruiser “ General Admiral ” was built at the Okhten Admiralty shipyard [16] .

In 1879 he was granted a diamond ring with a monogram image named after His Imperial Highness Heir Tsesarevich "for his efforts to develop the idea of ​​a modern cruiser and for the technical verification of ship projects . Ivan Sergeyevich Dmitriev died on August 26, 1881 [2] [17] . He was buried at the Novodevichy cemetery in St. Petersburg [18] .
