Description

The station was commissioned as part of the first stage, and in fact was the first metro transit station. For a long time, the station was one of the most stressful nodes, because having 2 ways, she took trains from three stations. In this regard, the plan to expand the metro until 1999 implied the creation of a second underground entrance hall for taking trains. The new lobby opened in 1995 [1] .

In connection with the reconstruction, it was decided to decorate one of the platforms with a sculpture of Marquis di Pombal . As conceived by the Lisbon sculptor, João Kutileira, Pombal is depicted holding a scroll with a plan for restoring the city after the devastating earthquake of 1755 . Also in 1998, the station was renamed in honor of Marquis di Pombal.
