Archbishop John (in the world Ivan Pavlovich Derevyanka , Ukrainian Ivan Pavlovich Derev'yanka ; July 6, 1937 , Zenkov , Poltava region ) - bishop of the UAOC in the diaspora in the jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Constantinople with the title of Bishop of Parnassus, governor of London and Western Europe New Zealand dioceses.
Biography
He was born on July 6, 1937 in the family of Catherine and Pavel Derevyank - Poltava by origin. He had four brothers and a sister.
In 1943, his family arrived at work in Germany and lived at the end of the war in a camp for displaced people in the city of Kornberg until his departure in Belgium in 1947. From a young age he took an active part in parish life.
In the village for miners in Zvartberg in eastern Belgium, Ivan Derevyanka studied at a Ukrainian public school, then at a Belgian high school in the city of Genk , and after graduation he studied mathematics at the University of Louvain .
After that he worked as an employee. In 1966, he married Vera Bachinskaya.
Protopresbyter Ivan Bachinsky quickly prepared for pastoral service under the guidance of his father-in-law.
On July 20, 1980, in Landshut, he was ordained deacon by Archbishop Orest (Ivanyuk) , and on September 19, 1982, he was ordained priest by Archbishop Anatoly (Dubliansky) in the city of Genk and fed the Ukrainian communities in Belgium .
After the repose of his wife, on September 26, 1989, at the Metropolitan residence of South Bound Brook, New Jersey, he was tonsured a monk by the Metropolitan of the UOC in the United States, Mstislav (Skrypnik) with the name John, and the next day he was elevated to the rank of archimandrite .
October 27, 1991 in London he was ordained bishop by the hierarchs of the UOC in the USA: Metropolitan Mstislav , Archbishop Constantine and Bishop Anthony, and was appointed to the pulpit in London.
Upon acceptance of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the United States and the Scattering under the omophorion of the Patriarch of Constantinople on March 11/12, 1995, he received the title of Bishop of Parnassus. He was left behind the care of the Ukrainian parishes in Western Europe and he continued to live in Belgium.
At the Cathedral of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church in the Diaspora in September 1999 in the city of Genk, Bishop John was elected successor in 1997 in New Ulm of the late Metropolitan Anatoly, the managing bishop of the Western European Diocese, and elevated to the rank of archbishop .
Since February 2000, he has also managed the diocese of Australia and New Zealand.
