December 13, 1942 replaced General A. Munoz Grandes as commander of the 250th (Spanish) Infantry Division on the Soviet-German front. The subordinate division was called the “blue division” and, at the time of its appointment, was fighting near Leningrad.
October 3, 1943 awarded the German Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross .
On October 14, 1943, the division, which suffered heavy losses, was withdrawn from the front and sent back to Spain. Officially remained the division commander until October 20, 1943. The author of the book "Blue Division: Spanish Volunteers on the Eastern Front" (1958).
