Georg Philipp Schmidt (January 1, 1766, Lübeck - October 28, 1849, Ottensen) is a German poet , known as Schmidt von Lübeck, a medic and prominent administrator.

Biography
Came from the Lübeck merchant family. From 1786 to 1790 he studied first in Jena, then in Göttingen, studied law and finance, but then moved to the theological faculty. After the death of his parents, he received a large inheritance and decided to continue his education, returned to Jena and began to study medicine.
In 1797 he received a medical degree and went to practice in Kiel. Soon he made several trips to Germany, in 1799 he moved to the Danish island of Funen, where he became a teacher of commerce, history and English literature.
Three years later, he entered the Danish public service and remained in it until 1813, occupying a variety of positions - from the Minister of Finance and the head of the Royal Bank to the fishing inspector.
In 1813 he headed the bank in Kiel, in 1818 he returned to Denmark and served there in financial positions until 1829.
His songs were compiled and published by Schumacher (Lieder, 1821, many editions). Some of them (“Ich komme vom Gebirge her”, “Von allen Ländern in die Welt”, etc.) became popular. In addition, Schmidt wrote Historische Studien (1827).
