Biennial

Dvaleniya on the map of modern North Ossetia

Dvalety ( cargo. დვალეთი , Dvaleti ; Osset. Tualgom ) is a historical region inhabited by dwales .

History

In his work “Geography of Georgia”, compiled in 1745, Vahushti Bagrationi describes in detail Dvaletia: [1]

«Biennials are divided into gorges and are called gorges like this: Kasris-heavy , Zramaga , Zhgele , Nara , Zrogo , and Zaha . The gorges left behind the oats kings are called so: Chimi , Tagauri , Kurtauli , Valagiri , Paikomi, Digori and Basiani; and they are named by these names (gorges) or by the names of villages or mainly oats that entered here: after the campaign of Genghis Khan, Batohakan defeated (oats) and devastated (their country). Ossetians, however, went inside the Caucasus and these gorges began to be called by their names, as their surnames show: for the superior oats have the names and surnames of oats as follows: Basiani, Badelidze, Cherkesidze, Tagauri, Kurtauli, Sidamoni and Chakhilidze. After the devastation of Ovsetia and their entry (oats) into the Caucasus began to be called - Ovsetia Circassia or Kabardo , and those located in the mountains of the Caucasus by the name of those who entered here (oats) - Ovsetia; for even now the noblest of them are called wasps, and the rest of the most notorious again are dwales .»
