Mentions of the Bell by Contemporaries

Pedro Marinho de Lobera mentions Colocolo, listing the cacics who were represented by Pedro de Valdivia after the Battle of Penco . [1] Jeronimo de Vivar, in his Chronicle of the Kingdom of Chile (1558), describes Colokolo as one of the Araucan leaders with 6,000 warriors and one of the contenders for the currents of all Araucans after the Battle of Tucapeli . Millarapue , who was also the leader of 6,000 soldiers, but old and not claiming leadership, convinced his rivals to resolve the dispute over the place of currents in the competition in force between them, the result of which was the victory of Kaupolikan, which became the currents of Araucans. [2]

Lauber further reports that Colokolo and Peterguélen were leaders who discovered the advance of the army of Francisco de Villagra and convened all the men who could fight from the surrounding provinces to confront the Spaniards at the battle of Marihueno . [3] Colocolo was among the generals under the command of Lautaro during the second destruction of Concepcion on December 4, 1555. [4] He was also one of the commanders in the Kaupolikan army at the Battle of Milarup , who fought against the troops of Garcia Hurtado de Mendoza . [5] Lobera also reports that Colokolo was one of the strongest leaders of the Araucan territory in Mendoza after the Battle of Chiapo . [6]
