The book "New settlers in cities" brought fame in the scientific community, and her first works were devoted to the poorly studied problem of adaptation of migrants in new cities of Siberia. Later, in the 1970s, at SOPS, she was engaged in long-term forecasting of the labor market and migration, as its components in conjunction with the regional economy, and since then have been one of the most respected experts in this field. In the 1980s, speaking at the Institute of Geography of the USSR Academy of Sciences as the head of research on the evolution of settlement, he actively studied migration in the context of urbanization and the transformation of settlement systems, including expeditionary research. The topic of external international migrations that became relevant after the collapse of the USSR in the 1990s and was hardly studied during the Soviet era becomes the main one for J. A.
