Biography
Yosef Golub was born in the city of Mlada Boleslav on February 5, 1930 . He studied at Charles University in Prague , where he graduated in 1953 . Subsequently, he became a professor at Charles University. Golub was one of the founders of the Institute of Botany, where he worked for almost his entire life. With his participation, the magazine Folia Geobotanica & Phytotaxonomica was created, published since 1966. Golub worked in his editorial office for 30 years.
In the 1960s, Golub was preparing for the release of a geobotanical map of Czechoslovakia. Yosef initiated the Red List of Czechoslovakia and one of the main authors of the Red Books of the Czech Republic and Slovakia (1999).
In 1990, Golub became the editor-in-chief of the journal of the Czech Botanical Society Preslia , replacing Zdenek of Montenegro in this position, and a year later was elected president of the Society itself.
Yosef Golub died July 23, 1999 near Mladá Boleslav.
The author of Golub owns sections of the books Flora Europaea and Flora of Turkey , devoted to the cereals of the tribe Aveneae , the genus Glyceria and the Asteraceae tribe Filagineae . He worked in the editions of the books Flora Iberica , Flora Europaea , as well as one of the publications Flora von Mitteleuropa G. Hegy . In Flora of the Czech Republic, Golub completely reworked the taxonomy of the genera Rubus and Crataegus . Golub also studied taxonomically complex genera such as Epilobium , Gentianella, and Heracleum .
In addition to flowering plants, Golub also reworked the taxonomy of the genus plupaid-like Huperzia , and also proposed an intra-genus classification of the genus Equisetum . Golub also studied the family relationships of the fern families Dryopteris , Lastraea, and Thelypteris .
Yosef Golub was married to Vera Golubova-Ekhova (1936-1993), who worked at the Institute of Botany in Prague on the study of hyphomycetes .
