Student career

In 1939 he graduated from Ohio State University , where for four years he played for the Ohio State Buccais basketball team, in which he spent a successful career. Under Hull, the Bakkays once won the regular championship and tournament of the Big Ten Conference (1939), and also entered the playoffs of the US Student Championship (1939) once [1] [2] [3] [4] .

In 1939, the Ohio State Buccais reached the final of the National University Sports Association (NCAA) , and Jimmy Hull was recognized as the most outstanding player in this basketball tournament . On March 17, the Bakkays reached the final of four NCAA tournaments ( Eng. Final Four ), where they first defeated the team of Paul Nagent 's Villanova Wildcats with a score of 53-36 in the semifinal match, March 18, in which Hull became the best player in the match having scored 28 points [5] [4] , and then in the final game, on March 27, they lost to the team Bobby Anet , Lauren Gale and John Dick “ Oregon Webfoots ” with a score of 33–46, in which Jimmy became the best player in his team by gaining 12 points [6] [4] .

For the past two seasons, Jimmy Hull steadily stepped onto the pitch in the starting five, and in the 1938/1939 season he became the team captain and also the most productive player in the Big Ten conference, gaining 169 points in the end, as a result of which he was included in the 1st All-American team NCAA [7] . In September 1977, he was inducted into the Ohio State University Hall of Fame [8] .

Personal life

After graduating from the university, Hull decided not to start a professional career, but instead became the coach of the freshmen basketball team, at the same time graduating from the university’s dental department. In 1943, after receiving a doctorate from a dentist surgeon, Jimmy joined the US Navy Dental Corps. But he did not stay away from his native university for a long time and in 1946 he became an assistant professor of dentistry, eventually opening his own practice. In addition, Hull participated in many student organizations, being the president of the sports club steering committee, the president of the board of directors of the alumni association, and the vice president of the alumni association. For his professional services, he was included in the Rocky Mountain Dental Sports Hall of Fame [7] .

Death

Jimmy Hull died on November 2, 1991 at the 75th year of his life in the city of Leesburg ( Ohio ) [9] .
