Claude Owen Lovejoy ( born February 11, 1943 , Lexington , Kentucky ) is a functional anatomy specialist from the of ( Ohio ), director of the Matthew Ferrini Institute the study of human evolution. His most famous works are devoted to the study of locomotion of Australopithecus and the origin of upright [1] [2] . The article “The origin of mankind”, published in Science in January 1981, is one of his most cited articles [1] .

Lovejoy is best known as C. Owen Lovejoy , which he uses in publications. In the " Cambridge Dictionary of Human Biology and Evolution " ( The Cambridge Dictionary of Human Biology and Evolution ) he appears under this name [1] .
Biography
Owen Lovejoy was born near Lexington , pc. Kentucky Bachelor and Ph.D. in biological anthropology received at the . Owen's father owned a small chain of hotels. The family spent the summer months on the lakes of Michigan, combining vacations with Christian charitable construction work.
Until 1968, Lovejoy taught at in Ohio. [3] During this time, he published more than 100 articles, including in such journals as Science , Nature , , Scientific American [4] .
Lovejoy's most famous work is devoted to the reconstruction of Australopithecus Lucy over 3 million years old. His research focuses on a wide range of issues from mutations in eukaryotes to suture closures of the skull. A significant part of them relates to bipedal locomotion and its evolution, which includes studies of the skeletal systems of hominids and their ancestors. Lovejoy is also an associate professor of anatomy at . [5]
