Story
The officer of the imperial guard Vladimir Dubrovsky attracted the attention of Tsarina Catherine II after the rescue of the young girl Masha. The tsarina tried to seduce the brave handsome officer who liked her, but the cornet Dubrovsky rejected her, left the army and became an outcast.
Upon returning home, he learns that his father at death, having lost all his property and land, taken from him by his new neighbor Kirill Troekurov and a corrupt judge. A father dies in his son's arms. Vladimir swears revenge and, collecting a gang of robbers, becomes the "Black Eagle", a kind of Robin Hood in a black mask. At the head of a detachment of horsemen, he stands up for the protection of the poor and oppressed, but when his people capture the girl Masha, whom he once saved, he finds out that she is the daughter of that very hated Kirill Troekurov. Nonetheless, he lets her go.
Under the name of the French teacher LeBlanc, he penetrates the estate of Cyril. One night, hiding his face under a mask, Vladimir burst into Cyril's bedroom. The old man on his knees asks for mercy. Masha appears and the “Black Eagle” escapes through the window. A few minutes later, Dubrovsky will again appear before her in the guise of a teacher.
Cyril’s closest assistant to the Black Eagle, Cyril, is flogged. Dubrovsky frees him and, having communicated his real name, rushes off, taking his beloved with him. He is captured by the police, but in prison registers a marriage with Masha. The tsarina regretfully signs the death sentence, but in the end she changes her mind and allows him to leave Russia under a false name and leave with Masha.
