Biography
Born in a large peasant family.
He graduated from a music school in Vologda in the accordion class. He worked as a music director in the club of Krasavino , then in the ensemble "New Electron" (Lipetsk Philharmonic) [1] . He began with performances in the pantomime genre (numbers “In the self-service canteen”, “Some spectators in the concert hall”).
Since 1970, having met Vladimir Mulyavin at the pop artists competition, he made attempts to get into the Pesnyary.
He independently mastered playing the trombone .
Since 1972, a member of the ensemble, played the saxophone, keyboards, trombone, button accordion. The famous instrumental solo of Nikolaev is an organ fragment in the song “ Half an hour before the spring ”. He was also a backing vocalist .
Nikolaev managed to defend the song " Vologda " in the repertoire of "Pesnyarov". V. Mulyavin himself recalled:
| Both in intonation and in melody, I initially did not like it. And if it were not for the ensemble member Volodya Nikolaev (he was originally from Vologda), we might not have taken up the job. But Volodya infected us with his enthusiasm. And yet we thought it would be a “one-time” number. The incredible success of the song at the concert was a big surprise for us. They made me sing "encore" [2] . |
In the early 1980s, he left Pesnyary. After leaving the ensemble, he performed with concert programs in schools in various cities.
Since 1985, for several years he collaborated in the ensemble of the singer Sergei Belikov , performed organ parts.
Since the late 1980s, he lived in the native village of Chebsara and Yaroslavl, where he recorded several songs on his own poems, verses by Nikolai Rubtsov , etc.
I got into a car accident, got lame. At the beginning of 1999, he underwent a complex operation, paid for by the Yaroslavl administration, the treating doctor Barbakadze, Andrei Makarevich , the Belarusian Pesnyary group (which gave a charity concert in the auditorium of the hospital).
In 2005, he joined the project of Alexander Demeshko “Lyavony-Pesnyary” (the group broke up in 2006 with the death of Demeshko).
Wrote memoirs - “Notes of a songwriter”. [3]

Notes
- ↑ musicians of the ensemble "New Electron" went to Vologda. The fact is that Vladimir Shtulman and the director of the Vologda Philharmonic Society were friends and corresponded. So it was there, on tour, that we met the wonderful and talented guy Volodya Nikolaev.
