Biography
In 1905 he graduated from the Chernivtsi Teacher Seminary. The Ukrainian language and literature was taught to him by the famous Ukrainian writer Osip Makovei , who noticed a tendency towards literary creativity at Harovyuk and advised him to write short stories and stories from the Hutsul life.
He taught for nine years in Bukovina .
Member of the First World War. In 1914 he was mobilized into the Austro-Hungarian army. At the end of 1916, after being wounded, he fell seriously ill and died on October 14 of that year in the town of Tesin (now in the Czech Republic ).
Creativity
The author of realistic stories and short stories from peasant life.
He worked in the literary field for only seven years (from 1907 to 1914). In all the works of Harovyuk events take place in the Hutsul region. The images depicted by the writer from the life and life of the Hutsuls are typical of that time. The prototypes of the characters of his works were people, among whom he grew up and worked.
In the stories “Palagna” (1907), “Last Day of Faith” (1908), “Litsitatsiya” (1911), “The Death of Sorokanyukova Yuri” (1913) and others truthfully reflected the process of impoverishment of the Bukovinian peasantry.
D. Harovyuk carried out significant public work, created reading houses in the villages, engaged in educational activities, organized choirs, and amateur groups. He was one of the first members of the “Organization of Ukrainian Ukrainian leadership in Bukovina” (the “Free Organization of Ukrainian Teaching in Bukovina” in Vizhnitsky Povet.
