Biography
Don began performing in small groups back in the late 1970s, but attempts were not particularly successful. However, in 1981 , when Scorpions frontman Klaus Meine had problems with the vocal cords, he needed a replacement. Then, the famous German producer Dieter Dirks paid attention to Don. He was asked to replace Klaus with the recordings of the Blackout album, but this did not happen - Klaus successfully underwent surgery and continued to sing, although demos with Don’s voice were recorded. Then, Don decided to show Dirks his own songs. Dirks, impressed by the material he heard, allowed Don to use his time in the studio to record the band's first album, Breaking the Chains . [2]
In 1986, as part of a charity project to help the starving in Africa, under the direction of Ronnie Dio , Don took part in the recording of the album Hear 'n Aid , which also brought together a huge number of famous musicians. [3]
In 2012, Don, in an interview with GlideMagazine, announced that their 12th album, Broken Bones, would be final in the work of Dokken , and announced the upcoming collaboration and possible recording of the album with Michael Schenker , a former Scorpions guitarist. [4] [5]
