Creation History

Frude Everly began work on the Pondus in 1995. Then the series was called “Team A” and talked about three football fans. Two of them soon became heroes, today known as Pondus and Jokke. The comic received the name “Pondus” after the publication of the first story in the small local newspaper of the island of Sotra “Vest-Nytt” [3] . Since 1996 and for four years, the comic has been published in the Norwegian magazine dedicated to the Piranha Club by Ernie Bud Grace, as an addition to it. Since April 2, 1997, the comic book began to appear daily on the pages of the popular Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet [3] .

On July 4, 2000, Pondus was first published as a separate magazine; it was the first time in the history of Norwegian comics when the former newspaper comic turned into its own monthly magazine [4] . On July 6, 2001, Pondus began to appear in Sweden [5] (in the form of a "subsidiary" magazine), and a year later made its debut as a separate magazine in Latin. The comic is also translated into Esperanto and since 2007 has been published in a magazine published by the Norwegian Esperantist Union (Norvega Esperantista Ligo). Since 2002, the Christmas issue of Pondus has been published in Kven and Sami . In total, the comic book is currently published in 130 publications: 80 Norwegian newspapers and a number of major foreign ones, including the Swedish “Dagens Nyheter”, the Danish “Berlingske Tidende” and the Icelandic Frettabladid, as well as in France and England.

Since 2007, Pondus has been published by Egmont Publishing House, until then, the Norwegian company Schibsted was responsible for the comic book. After that, the plot changed: the main character left his job as a bus driver and acquired his own bar [6] .

Frude Everly twice, in 1998 and 2003, received the SPROING-prisen prize for this comic, and in 2006 he was awarded the Adamsonstatuetten prize [7] [8] .
