Content
Geographical position
The village is located in the northwestern part of the Zolsky district , in the valley of the Zolka river. Located 7 km south-west of the district center Zalukokoazhe , 72 km north-west of Nalchik , and 18 km south-east of Pyatigorsk (on the road). To the north of the rural settlement, passes the administrative border of the republic with the Stavropol region.
The area of the rural settlement is 30 km 2 .
It borders with the lands of settlements: Oktyabrskoe in the north, Zalukodes and Dzhenal in the east, Belokamenskoe in the southwest, and the village of Etoka of the Stavropol Territory in the northwest.
The settlement is located in the foothill part of the republic, at the foot of the northern slope of the Dzhinal mountain range. The relief of the locality consists mainly of ridges stretching to the south of the village, alternating in the north to an inclined foothill plain. On the territory of a rural settlement there are many burial mounds, which are remnants of the Adighe medieval burial grounds. The average height of the rural settlement is 755 meters above sea level. Absolute heights exceed 1,000 meters. River valleys are dissected by deep valleys and beams. The slopes of the watersheds are steep and sloping. To the south of the village, Zolsky pastures with alpine meadows begin famous in the republic.
The soil cover is represented by typical leached chernozem, gray and dark gray forest.
The hydrographic network is represented by the Bolshaya Zolka and Mokraya Zolka rivers, at the confluence of which the main part of the population of the village is located. There are also springs and sulfur sources.
The climate is humid temperate with warm summers and cool winters. The average annual air temperature is + 8.0 ° С, and ranges from average + 19.5 ° С in July, to average -3.8 ° С in January. The average annual rainfall is about 660 mm. Most of the precipitation falls between April and June. The main winds are northwest and east.
History
The village was founded in 1925 by immigrants from nearby villages who owned land in the area.
The name of the village was given by a certain horseman who met the first settlers at the foot of one barrow.
During World War II , in August 1942, the village was captured and defeated by German troops. In January 1943, freed from invaders. In memory of the deceased villagers and warriors who died during the liberation of the village, monuments were erected in the village.
