Biography
According to Vladimir Vasilyevich, his family is rooted in the city of Uman ( Cherkasy region , Ukraine ). Grandfather Fyodor moved to the city of Yekaterinoslav and was engaged in agriculture, father Vasily was a worker.
After graduating from secondary school No. 11 in Pridneprovsk (the residential area of Dnepropetrovsk ) in August 1955, Vladimir Pototsky successfully passed the exams at the Kharkov Aviation School of Navigators and became a cadet for two years.
After graduating from college in December 1957, Lieutenant Pototsky was sent north and arrived in the village of Polbino station, Obozersky Arkhangelsk region .
After some time, following Pototsky Vladimir, his life partner, Nadezhda, arrived from Dnepropetrovsk to the North of the USSR , with whom they studied at the same school and on March 13, 1959 they got married.
For more than 30 years, Vladimir Pototsky served in the USSR Air Defense Forces as part of the 10th Red Banner Separate Air Defense Army in the positions of an airplane navigator, operator navigator, squadron communications chief - ship navigator, squadron, aircraft navigation regiment, senior regiment navigator, senior inspector, navigator of the army aviation department. He mastered 14 types of aircraft, completed 152 bombings, 18 launches of air-to-air cruise missiles, and flew as part of the MiG-31 squadron to the Franz Josef Land archipelago ice airfield.
He was awarded the Order for Service to the Homeland in the Armed Forces of the USSR 3rd degree and many other medals.
On August 17, 1984, Vladimir Pototsky was awarded the honorary title "Honored Military Navigator of the USSR"
After dismissal from service, Vladimir Vasilievich continued an active lifestyle. He went in for sports, for more than 10 years he was the chairman of the Magistral horticultural partnership (more than 1000 summer cottages) and led the work of the co-chairman of the public organization of air defense veterans of the North.

“Guarding the Northern Sky” - a book under that title [1] , published on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War , is dedicated to veterans of the 10th Red Banner Separate Air Defense Army, whose headquarters was located in the city of Arkhangelsk . It covers the titanic work of thousands of people who created a powerful group of air defense forces in the missile-bearing direction, capable of repelling the blow of a potential enemy. The human side of the service, which took place in the special conditions of the North, was told honestly and without embellishment.
Of the veterans of this army, the book is shared by a colonel, navigator, sniper, and honored military navigator of the USSR Vladimir Pototsky. In the essay Landing on Graham Bell, he writes about the flight to this ice airfield of the Franz Joseph Archipelago [2] .

In March 1988, the MiG-31p squadron of the 518th Fighter Aviation Regiment flew and landed on the Franz Josef Land archipelago on the Graham Bell ice airfield. The commander of the group on the MiG-31p was Major General Aviation V.F. Bokov, the navigator was Pototsky Vladimir Vasilievich. The aircraft were prepared for departure from the ice airfield by AM Senin, A. D. Fedorov from the advanced team flying to the An-8, the commander of this crew was L. P. Pleshkunov, and the navigator was Yu. N. Galkin [3] .
July 5, 2013 in Arkhangelsk solemnly celebrated 55 years of the 10th Red Banner Separate Air Defense Army [4] .
