Sports Biography

Larisa Yurkiv started skiing already in 2 years. Three times Yurkiv took part in the world championships among juniors and the best result in the world youth championships for her was the 2nd place, won by the results of the combination in 2008. At competitions under the auspices of FIS, Larisa began performing at the end of 2003. Since March 2004, a Canadian skier began to compete in the North American Cup. During the appearances in the Cup of North America, Larisa won 9 victories and the final 1st place in the overall standings according to the results of the 2007/2008 season. Also on the account of the Canadian athlete there is one victory at the stages of the European Cup, obtained in the Swiss St. Moritz on December 17, 2013. At the stages of the World Cup, Yurkiv first performed on January 13, 2007 in the Austrian city of Altenmarkt . Yurkiv scored her first points in 2008 at the stage in Canadian Lake Louis, becoming the 29th in downhill. The best result in the world cup for the Canadian skier was the 6th place in the downhill in the Austrian Altenmarkt in the season 2013/2014. Twice Yurkiv took part in world championships, but the best result for her was only 23rd place in the super giant in 2013.

On December 16, 2009, during a training session in the French Val d'Isere, Yurkiv suffered severe knee injuries, as a result of which she was forced to miss two seasons, including Yurkiv left behind the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver [1] .

In 2014, Larisa Yurkiv performed at the Sochi Winter Olympics . The Canadian skier has performed in two disciplines. On the downhill, Yurkiv showed the 20th result, and in the super giant she was unable to finish. Initially, Yurkiv might not have taken part in the Games in Sochi, since the Canadian Federation, after the 2010 Games, pretty much reduced the costs of winter sports, as a result of which Yurkiv did not have enough funds to travel to Russia. Nevertheless, thanks to voluntary donations, the athlete was able to raise the required amount and take part in the Sochi Winter Olympics [2] [3] .

In May 2016, at the age of 28, after the most successful season in the World Cup (22nd place in the overall standings and third place in the downhill classification), she announced her retirement [4] .
