Content
Geography
It is located in the Middle Ubukun Valley 12 km northeast of the regional center, the city of Gusinoozersk , on the right bank of the Ubukun River , at the place of its sharp turn from the northwest to the northeast. Hence the name of the village from the Buryat “ tohoy ” - literally “ elbow ”, in the figurative sense “ bend, bend ”.
Half a kilometer south-east of the Tohoy ulus, the Kyakhtinsky tract passes - the federal highway A340 Ulan-Ude - Kyakhta. Distance to Ulan-Ude - 100 km. In the northwest is the Sulfate station of the East Siberian Railway . Along Lenin Street, the main street of the village, and further through the village of Sulfat station, there passes a highway to the recreational area "Lake Shchuchye" at the Soldier ridge, the spur Hamar-Daban . The distance from the Kyakhtinsky tract to Schuchye Lake is 11 km.
History
One and a half kilometers to the west of Tohoy in the closed basin lies Salt Lake . In the past, the Selenginsky Salt Plant existed here. In Soviet times, Tohoy was the central estate of a large collective farm named after Lenin.
