The sculptural composition initially consisted of 5 figures. The pedestal with the Red Army was simultaneously a tribune and was decorated with a bas-relief on the theme of peaceful labor of Soviet citizens. It was adorned with a quote from Stalin: “We stand for peace and defend the cause of peace. But we are not afraid of threats and are ready to respond with a blow to the blow of the arsonists of the war . ” The monument was a unique example of socialist realism and, apparently, had no analogues in the country. For a long time he was one of the symbols of Tula. However, made of fragile materials, the monument quickly collapsed. First, one of the figures disappeared, and by the mid-1950s there were 4 of them: a Red Army soldier with a rifle, a girl with a raised hand, a student with a globe, and a pioneer with a horn. The soldier stood until 1989, when he was dismantled. | |
| Ivan Pavlov | c. 1950 | st. Pervomayskaya, near the main entrance to the Vanykinsky hospital | Many Tula residents believed that N. A. Semashko was imprinted in a plaster figure. There was also an opinion that the figure depicts the great Russian surgeon N.I. Pirogov . The monument had an exact portrait resemblance to the famous Tula surgeon Vladimir Fedorovich Dagaev (1872-1958), who was also personified with the monument. All speculation arose because there was no sign indicating the identity of the person sitting in the chair. By the mid-2000s, the monument created from gypsum was very dilapidated. Previously, cosmetic repairs were done at the expense of the hospital itself, although it was not on the balance sheet of this institution. The hospital did not have to restore the monument, as well as to repair its own buildings. In connection with this, in 2003 the monument was dismantled, and a parking lot appeared in its place. | ||
