Lazarev, Alexey Evdokimovich

Alexey Evdokimovich Lazarev ( 1775 (?) - March 23 ( April 4 ) 1825 ) - Ensign of the Guards Wheelchair Company No. 1 of the Guards Wheelchair Brigade as part of the Life Guard of the Garrison Battalion.

Biography

Born in 1775 (?) - the birth date of Lazarev is not in the formulary, but there is a note: in the year 1816, when the list was drawn up, he was 41 years old. By origin - from soldiers' children.

Information about the life of Lazarev Alexei Evdokimovich is little known.

He began serving in the Russian army on June 1, 1790, in the Yekaterinburg Infantry Regiment. Veteran, a participant in the wars of Russia with France during the Napoleonic Wars.

On the day of the ratification of the Tilsit Treaty on June 27 (July 9), 1807, during a parade of Russian and French troops, Napoleon expressed a desire to award the Order of the Legion of Honor "the bravest Russian soldier." The choice fell on the right-flank grenadier of the Preobrazhensky regiment Lazarev. Napoleon withdrew the Legion of Honor and put it on Lazarev, ordering him to produce 1,200 francs annually. Napoleon told the grenadier: " You will remember this day when we, your sovereign and I, became friends ."

Subsequently, as an ambassador in St. Petersburg, Arman de Colencourt invited Lazarev to his balls and dinners, and presented him with ribbons of the Order of the Legion of Honor.

In 1809, at the behest of the Russian Tsarevich and Grand Duke Konstantin Pavlovich, non-commissioned officer of the Life Guards Preobrazhensky regiment Alexei Lazarev deprived of the Legion of Honor for "he committed impudent acts against sergeant Tiravin and demoted without a court to rank and file, transferring him to Azov regiment.

In July 1819, the ensign Lazarev, during a visit to a friend in St. Petersburg, had a conflict with the landlady, in whom his friend rented a room. An accidental witness to the conflict also got it. As a result of the beatings to the “official and bourgeoisie”, Ensign Lazarev was put on trial in October 1819. However, the Lazarev case was sent for review, in view of the changed testimonies of the participants and witnesses of the conflict. The decision in the Lazarev case was delayed.

March 23 ( April 4 ), 1825, Ensign Lazarev, without waiting for a decision on his fate, committed suicide.

On April 10, 1825, the St. Petersburg commandant reported to the Audit Department of the General Staff of His Imperial Majesty: “The warrant officer Lazarev, who was at the St. Petersburg Ordinance House under the court of Guards Invalid Company No. 1, was detained at the hospital guardhouse on April 4th ... "

Novel War and Peace

Leo Tolstoy, when describing the parade scene in the novel “War and Peace,” almost literally repeated the story of Lazarev’s rewarding from the “Description of the Second War of Emperor Alexander and Napoleon” by the famous military historian Mikhailovsky-Danilevsky.
