Quote from the article:
A science fiction writer and storyteller on a multiscreen, Serebryakov is by no means distracted from reality in his work; a master of a philosophical parable played out by puppets, he is at the same time not a stranger to ostro-satirical images. An important theme in Serebryakov’s work and extremely close to him was the theme of mother and motherhood, which was started by the director in the film “I am Waiting for the Chick”. A simple plot made it possible to create vivid images-symbols. Frivolous, devoid of maternal feelings, the bird leaves its nest, instructing the elephant to hatch an egg. In any case, that’s how he understands her assignment. And here is a paradoxical situation! - an elephant climbs a tree and perches above a nest, wanting to honestly fulfill its duty. Ostro-satirical episodes of bird’s amusements and entertainments with their “gentlemen” and no less expressive scenes of weeks of patient expectation that the elephant spends on a tree follow. As a result, as a reward for his patience, not a bird appears from the egg, but a small elephant who can fly. The rich imagination of the director and artist V. Urmanche, who collaborated with him in this film, not only made the film funny and witty, but also gave it a generalized meaning.
