A significant impact on the creation of the game was the game UFO: Enemy Unknown ( X-COM: UFO Defense ).

Development
Game development began in 2009, in September 2009, Chaos Concept introduced a new website [3] , announcing a prequel to UFO: Extraterrestrials called UFO2Extraterrestrials: Shadows over Earth ( Russian: UFO2Extraterrestrials: Shadows on Earth).
Some of the announced improvements in the game include dynamic lighting (night missions complete with the need for light sources), and naval forces in the Geoscape phase of the game (for example, heavy aircraft carriers / cruisers that can launch fighters and protect against UFOs).
After long delays with the release date (in 2011 the game was postponed to improve the tactical battles by developers and add new types of equipment at the request of the players) [4] [5] , Chaos Concept announced a new release date for the 2nd quarter of 2013, and the game was renamed in UFO2Extraterrestrials: Battle for Mercury ( Russian UFO2Extraterrestrials: Battle for Mercury). After the delay, the release date was postponed to the 3rd quarter of 2014. But even in 2016, the developers did not have time to make the game, moving it to an indefinite time. In the fall of 2018, the official website displays information about the release of the game before the end of the year.
