Biography
In 1959 he graduated from high school number 1 in Ryazhsk, Ryazan region.
In 1964, he graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University with a degree in Computational Mathematics, and in 1967, graduate school there. He received a referral to the Institute of Cybernetics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR and moved to Kiev . He worked at the institute from 1968 to 1969, a junior researcher.
In 1969 he defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of physical and mathematical sciences [1] , the theme of the dissertation: “On the stability of multilayer difference schemes”, supervisor A. A. Samarsky .
In 1969 he joined the Institute of Applied Mathematics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR , a junior research fellow, and since 1976, a senior research fellow.
Since 1970, he taught at Moscow State University (until 1986, part-time). In 1980 he defended his doctoral dissertation "The stability of non-self-adjoint difference schemes" [2] , since 1986 - professor at Moscow State University. In 2008, he headed the Department of Computational Methods at the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics, Moscow State University .
Awards and titles
- Emeritus Professor of Moscow University (2001).
- Honorary Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation (2005).
Scientific Interests
The works are connected with the study of numerical methods for solving problems of mathematical physics and, in particular, with the theory of stability of difference schemes.
Solutions to major topical problems in the theory of numerical methods are obtained, in particular, stability criteria for non-self-adjoint two-layer and three-layer difference schemes of a general form are formulated with applications to specific difference problems of filtration, heat conduction, gas dynamics, and elasticity theory.
The theory of difference schemes with nonlocal boundary conditions is developed. The necessary and sufficient stability conditions are obtained from the initial data.
Numerical methods for solving eigenvalue problems for differential equations, including those with non-linear occurrence of a spectral parameter, have been developed and theoretically justified. A number of important applied problems in plasma physics, electron beam propagation, and shell theory have been solved.
He prepared 11 candidates of physical and mathematical sciences.
The author of more than 130 scientific papers.
