Theater History

The history of the Perm Puppet Theater began in 1937, when the Regional Committee for the Arts organized a troupe based on a small puppet group at the Perm Philharmonic . The first production of the new theater was the tale "By the Pike", which was then staged in Moscow. At first, the troupe did not have its own premises, and she led a nomadic life, traveling on tours by trucks, ships, horses. In 1943, for the first time in the USSR, the troupe staged the puppet opera The Fly-Tsokotuha by M. Krasev dedicated to children evacuated from Moscow.

Its premises at the theater appeared only in the late 1950s, when in 1957-1959. for him, the re-equipment of the building of the former transit prison built by R.I. Karvovsky began . The building was rebuilt with the assistance of S.V. Obraztsov by Leningrad architects and cost 2 million rubles. And the first significant puppet show in the new building was the adult comedy Devil's Mill.

The Perm Puppet Theater, led by V. D. Ofrichter, significantly raised the level of his creative work. The theater staff received diplomas for participating in shows of Polish, Czech, Hungarian drama and on the Soviet stage: during this period, performances such as Sambo, Klop, Puppet City, Kaprizka, as well as puppet operas Mucha -tzokotuha ”and“ Moidodyr ”, pantomime“ Red Bird ”, opera-buff“ Beautiful Elena ”.

In the 1980s under the direction of I.V. Ignatiev, the theater visited with touring the festivals of the Urals, Non-Black Earth Region, Moscow, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, as well as abroad: Japan (touring and the XV World Congress of UNIMA in 1988) and Louisville in the USA (1995). At the same time, the play "Mashenka and the Bear" was staged, created by I. and A. Ignatiev and still successfully performed on the stage of the theater.

Since 1995, I. Ternavsky became the head of the theater. The theater staged such works as “Extraordinary Adventures on the Roads”, “The Wizard of the Emerald City”, “Mowgli”, “Ordinary Puppet Concert”, “Kolobok”, “King Lear”.

In 1999, with the play “Who are you?” Based on the stories of A. Platonov, the theater became a laureate of the “Magic Backstage” festival, and in 2000 received a special prize for the Mastery of the Department of Culture and Art of the Perm Region Administration at the VIII All-Russian festival of solo performances . The drama "Mowgli" won the regional Prize "For the best achievement in the field of culture and art."

In 2003, the IX Festival of Puppet Theaters "The Big Urals - Volga Region" was held at the Perm Puppet Theater.

In 2016, the play "Thick Notebook" (dir. Alexander Yanushkevich ) became the winner of the national award "Golden Mask" in the nomination "Best Spectrum". Artist Tatyana Nersisyan was awarded the Golden Mask Award in the nomination “The Artist's Best Work” (performance “Thick Notebook”).
