Gloucester County is a county in the United States , Virginia . As of 2010 , the population was 36,858 people. It got its name in honor of the Count of Gloucester (the third son of King Charles I ).

According to the United States Census Bureau , the county’s total area is 746 km², of which 565 km² is land and 181 km² or 24.4% are water bodies.

According to the 2010 census [1] , 36,858 inhabitants live in the district as part of 15,663 households and 9,884 families . The population density is 62 people per km². There are 14,494 residential buildings in the district, with a building density of 26 buildings per km². Racial composition of the population: white - 87.2%, African Americans - 8.7%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.4%, Asians - 0.8%, Hawaiians - 0.0%, representatives of other races - 0.6 %, representatives of two or more races - 2.3%. Hispanics accounted for 2.5% of the population.
Of the total number of households , 35.20% are children under the age of 18 years, 61.40% of households are married couples living together, 9.90% of households are single women without a spouse, 24.70% of households households are not related to families, 20.30% of households consist of one person, 8.20% of households consist of elderly (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.62 people, and the average family size is 3.02 people.
The age structure of the county: 26.20% younger than 18 years old, 6.80% from 18 to 24, 30.40% from 25 to 44, 24.80% from 45 to 64 and 11.80% from 65 and older. The average age of a resident of the district is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 96.50 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.90 males.
