Johannes Roosevelt (baptized February 27, 1689 - 1750 ), also known as John Roosevelt, is an American merchant, alderman and founder of the Oyster Bay Roosevelt family, which included Theodore Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt .
Johannes was baptized on February 27, 1689 in Aesopus, New York, in the years when his father, Nicholas Roosevelt , lived there. His father was the son of the founder of the Roosevelt family, Klaas von Roosevelt. In 1690, the family moved to the city of New York. On September 25, 1708, Johannes married Heyltje Sjoerts in a Reformed Dutch church in New York. 11 children were born in marriage:

Johannes was elected assistant alderman from 1717 to 1727 and alderman from 1730 to 1733.
His slave named Quack was one of the organizers of the Slave Rebellion in 1741 in New York. He was accused of setting fire to Fort George and executed.
Johannes was the great-great-great-great-grandfather of President Theodore Roosevelt and the great-great-great-great-great-grandfather of Eleanor Roosevelt . Jacobus, the brother of Johannes, was the ancestor of President Franklin Roosevelt .
