Biography

As a hockey player, he played for the Finnish teams “PatU” and “Karpat” for a short time.

Pietil began his coaching career in 1986, when he entered the coaching staff of the UIP club. Soon he headed the Ilves , with which he worked for three years. In 1989, he led the team to third place in the SM League .

In 1990, he entered the coaching staff of Pentti Matikainen in the Finnish national team . For two years, Pietilya held the post of second coach in it. In this capacity, the mentor won silver medals with the national team at the World Championships in 1992 and participated in the Winter Olympic Games in Albertville .

After leaving the team, he worked with the Swedish “ Lulea ” and the Finnish “ COD ”, “ Jokerit ”, “ Espoo Blues ”. In 1998, along with “Jokerit”, the mentor became the bronze medalist of the SM League.

From 2001 to 2006, Sakari Pietilya worked as a scout in the NHL club Chicago Blackhawks .

Since 2006, the coach for the second time in his life headed “ Ilves ”. He worked with him until 2009.

Recently, Pietilya coached the youth teams of Finland and Austria, and also worked as a television reporter on local television.
