Biography

Anatoly Myagilov was born on October 27, 1923 in the village of Krutoe (now the Sanchursky District of the Kirov Region ). Since 1935, he lived in the Gorky Region , where he graduated from seven classes of school and worked as a foreman of a tractor brigade, as a hammerman on a collective farm . In March 1942, Myagilov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since August of the same year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. In battles he was wounded and shell-shocked. In 1943 he graduated from junior lieutenant courses [1] .

By May 1944, Lieutenant Anatoly Milagilov commanded a platoon of the 18th Guards Rifle Regiment ( 9th Guards Rifle Division , 6th Guards Army , 1st Baltic Front ). Distinguished during the liberation of the Pskov region . On May 18, 1944, following the reconnaissance group, the platoon of Myagilov broke through the German defenses and captured an important height. During this battle, only six people remained alive from the entire platoon. Having taken up the defense, they repelled two German counterattacks, destroying about 50 enemy soldiers and officers. In the midst of the battle, Myagilov was seriously wounded in the face. Not wanting to be captured, he shot himself. He was buried in a fraternal cemetery in the village of Baikino, Sebezh district, Pskov region [1] .

Awards

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated July 22, 1944, for “bravery and courage shown in the battles during the liberation of the Pskov Region”, Guard Lieutenant Anatoly Milazhylov was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin and Red Star [1] .

Memory

In honor of Myagilov, a monument was erected in Baykino [1] .
