Biography
Born in Petrograd in 1915. After completing seven classes, he worked as a seller in a store, a time-attendant, a loader in a port, and a worker.
In 1934 he was admitted to the Leningrad Infantry School named after Kirov , at the same time he studied at the evening department of Leningrad University . At the end of the military school he served as platoon commander in the south of Ukraine .
He was a member of the Great Patriotic War , in 1942 he graduated from the Frunze Military Academy .
He began to write and publish in 1933, but became a professional writer only in 1947, after being demobilized from the army. He was published in the journal Zvezda (1947-1953, 1970).
Since 1953 - Member of the Union of Soviet Writers . He published five books in the USSR.
In 1960, he was arrested and convicted on charges of anti-Soviet propaganda for 5 years in prison, he was serving a term in a penal colony in Mordovia .
In conclusion, he collected camp slang. [1] He was prematurely released in 1964, after which he became a member of the human rights movement .
In 1978 he emigrated to the United States , died in Greater Boston . Rehabilitated in 1995.
