The railway network - the totality of all operated railways - the transport system for the transport of goods and passengers. The concept of the railway is narrower, limited to the description of vehicles. At the same time, the railway network implies not only a group of vehicles of this transport system, but also the entire set of traction substations and other infrastructure necessary for the normal operation of railways.
The length of the railway network of different countries
In many countries, the length of the railway network is reduced. So, in the USA in 1920 there were more than 400,000 km of railways.
The list of countries for the length of the railway network is based on data from the International Union of Railways . In the table, countries are ranked by the length of the railways in operation, including lines not used for the carriage of passengers .
