By decrees of January 11 [a 3] and January 15 [a 4] “for a significant personal contribution to the development of the republic’s sports sector, achievement of high sports results, and activity in public life”, members of the “ Team of the President of the Republic of Belarus ” were awarded the title of ZMS on January 7 1st place at the X Christmas hockey tournament of amateur teams for the prize of the President:

  • Alekseev, Alexander Yuryevich (1968) - sports director of HC Shakhtar

With these decrees and decree dated January 10 [a 5] , 1 more player (ZMS Vadim Bekbulatov ) was awarded the Order of Honor , 14 players (already having the title of ZMS Oleg Antonenko , Alexander Makritsky , Oleg Mikulchik , Stepan Ponomarev , Sergey Stas , Vladimir Tsyplakov , Sergey Shabanov , Sergey Shitkovsky , as well as Dmitry Baskov , Leonid Grishukevich , Vyacheslav Lisichkin , Oleg Malashkevich , Vladimir Melenchuk , Aleksey Plotnikov ) - with the medal “For Labor Merit” , and the head coach of HC Shakhtar Andrey Gusov was awarded the honorary title “ Honored Coach of the Republic Bel Rus ".

These awards caused a mixed reaction from the media.

Euroradio noted that as a result of awarding the title of VMS, several amateur hockey players stood in line with the leading athletes of Belarus: for example, Mikhail Grabovsky , who plays in the NHL, does not have this title; among the five players who received this title [note 1], Astashevich did not play for the national team of Belarus at all, Mikhalev was disqualified for 2 years in 2013 for doping (as the Russian BBC service noted, the opposition press pointed to this fact, but the outcome of the tournament is [3] ), and Bely, Zadelyonov and Savilov, although they played for the national team, were not “stars”. [four]

In addition, Euroradio noted that this award is contrary to the Law of the Republic of Belarus “On State Awards of the Republic of Belarus” - according to it

The honorary title “Honored Master of Sports of the Republic of Belarus” is awarded to athletes, including disabled athletes, for achieving high results at the Olympic, Paralympic and World Games, championships, championships and World and European Cups.

- article 59 [5]

- amateur tournaments, where the President’s team performs, do not belong here. Attempts to find out how this happened gave the following result: the Hockey Federation explained that the Federation had nothing to do with it; the President’s press service chose not to answer sensitive questions. [four]

Vadim Devyatovsky , ZMS and a deputy of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Belarus, commenting on the request of the BelGazeta for awarding the titles of ZMS, said: “Knowing the system from the inside, I can say for sure that if the president - and he is the last instance satisfying or rejecting the idea - decided these people noted by “honored masters of sports”, then this decision was correct. ” Sergey Shchurko, sports journalist and manager of Alexandra Gerasimeni , considered differently: “to recognize the guys who won the Christmas tournament as honored masters of sports, to put them on a par with the winners of the Olympics, world and European championships, to put it mildly, is strange.” [6]

At a meeting with journalists of the largest Belarusian media, Alexander Lukashenko explained that he had awarded amateur hockey players to the current professional hockey players: “If there is a result, you will receive both ranks and money. There will be no result - you will receive nothing. ” [7]

In September 2014, the Belarus Hockey Federation petitioned the Ministry of Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus for awarding ZMS titles to 9 players of the Belarus national team, which reached the quarter finals of the 2014 World Cup [note 2] - Mikhail Grabovsky , Vladimir Denisov , Vitaliy Koval , Evgeni Kovyrshin , Andrei and Sergei Kostitsyn, Andrei Stas , Andrei Stepanov and Aleksei Ugarov - as well as conferring the title of Honored Coach on two national team coaches and awarded the medal “For Labor Merits” already having the title of ZMS Alexei Kalyuzhny, Konst ntina Koltsova, Andrei Mezin and Nikolai Stasenko. [8] The application was dismissed.
