Biography

Representative of the princely family of the Shcherbatovs . The eldest son of Prince Mikhail Vasilyevich Shcherbatov. The younger brothers are Princes Osip and Ivan Shcherbatov .

In 1550, Prince D.M. Shcherbatov was mentioned at the wedding of the specific prince Vladimir Andreevich Staritsky with Evdokia Alexandrovna Naga . He was named the first among the four princes Shcherbatovs who carried candles.

In 1565 - the governor in Korel , in 1566 Dmitry Shcherbatov was in the voivodship in Shatsk .

In 1570, after Ivan Grozny sent Russian regiments “ ashore ” (the Oka River) in Moscow, the boyars Ivan Mikhailovich Morozov and Nikita Romanovich Zakharyin-Yuryev were left, in addition to them, princes Vasily Ivanovich Barbashin and Dmitry Mikhailovich Shcherbatov were appointed.

In 1572, during the campaign of the Russian army from Oreshka against the Swedes, Prince D. M. Shcherbatov was a governor in the advanced regiment . In the same 1572 , according to the voivode’s painting, the governors “ from the oprichnina ” stood in Tarusa - in their left hand were princes Ivan and Dmitry Mikhailovich Shcherbatovs, who, under the command of Prince Mikhail Temryukovich Cherkassky , were to pursue the Crimean khan.

In 1574, Prince D. M. Shcherbatov served as governor in Korel , and from 1576 to 1577 he served as governor in Novgorod-Seversky .

In 1578 - 1579, Prince Dmitry Mikhailovich Shcherbatov was a governor in the fortress of Polotsk (in the city and in the prison there were other royal governors). In 1579, D. Shcherbatov participated in the defense of Polotsk , besieged by the Polish-Lithuanian army under the command of King Stephen Batory . The Russian governors burned Polotsk and for three months bravely defended themselves in a city fortress. After the capture of Polotsk, Prince Dmitry Shcherbatov, along with other tsarist governors, was captured.

He left behind two sons:

  • Prince Andrei Dmitrievich Shcherbatov (d. After 1603 ), governor
  • Prince Savva Dmitrievich Shcherbatov (d. After 1606/1607 ), steward and governor
