Youth Ice Hockey World Championship 2015

2015 Youth Ice Hockey World Championship is the 39th IIHF World Youth Championship tournament, held from December 26, 2014 to January 5, 2015 in Toronto and Montreal , Canada . The second tournament, which was held in a new format, according to which the first four teams from each group reached the quarter-finals. The teams that took the last place in their groups played a series of two victories for the right to remain in the strongest division. The tournament was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Canada Hockey Federation [1] .

The Canadian team for the first time since 2009 became the world champion and won its 16th title, having defeated the Russian team in the final with a score of 5: 4 [2] [3] . For the first time since 1999 , the Slovakian national team won bronze medals, having won the Swedish national team 4-2 in the match for third place [4] . The Danish team managed to stay in the top division for the first time, taking the highest eighth place in its history. The national teams of Switzerland and Germany , who took the last place in their groups, played a series of up to two victories for the right to remain in the strongest division. The Swiss national team won the 2-0 series, and the German national team flew to the first division of the 2016 World Cup .

The most valuable player in the championship was Denis Godla , who also became the best goalkeeper of the tournament. The top scorers of the championship were Connor McDavid , Nick Petan and Sam Reinhart , who scored 11 points for performance. The best striker of the tournament recognized Max Domi , and the best defender - Vladislav Gavrikov [5] .

Arenas

The arenas of the tournament were the palaces where the clubs of the National Hockey League - the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs , namely the Bell Center and Air Canada Center act. At the preliminary stage, group A matches were held at the Bell Center, and group B matches were held at Air Canada Center. The consolation round and playoff decisive matches went to Air Canada Center.
