Background
In the summer of 1110, the Norwegian fleet of 60 ships arrived in the Levant under the command of King Sigurd I. Upon arrival in Acre, he was received by King Baldwin I of Jerusalem . The two of them went on horseback rides along the banks of the Jordan River, during which Balduin I turned for help to Sigurd I in capturing Muslim ports. Sigurd I’s answer was: “we came here to devote ourselves to the service of Christ,” but in the end the Norwegian king agreed to help capture the city of Sidon , which was fortified by the Fatimids in 1098 .
Siege
Balduin I 's army laid siege to the city from land, while the Norwegians took their ships to sea to block the harbor of Sidon . The fleet was necessary to prevent the aid of the townspeople from Egypt and Tire . The capture of the city, however, was made possible only by the arrival of the Venetian fleet. The city fell after 47 days of siege.
Icelandic skald Einarr Skúlason gives the following description of these events:

Implications
By order of Baldwin I and the Patriarch of Jerusalem Ibelin of Arles, in gratitude for his help, Sigurd I received wood chips from the Holy Cross.
The administration of Sidon in the status of a seigneur was transferred to Eustachia de Granier - subsequently to the constable of the Kingdom of Jerusalem .
