Life
He inherited his father at the age of 9, and until 1334 was under the care of his mother.
From a young age he participated in hostilities, fought in Lorraine, France, Britain, on the Iberian Peninsula.
In 1337, Count Bara Henry IV refused to bring homage for the few seigneurs he kept from the duke. In response, Rudolph sacked Pont-à-Mousson and the surrounding area. A full-scale war began, which ended only thanks to the intervention of the French king Philip VI .
During the reign of Rudolph, relations between Lorraine and France were significantly strengthened. Together with King Philip, he participated in the lifting of the English siege of Tournai (1340).
During a brief Anglo-French armistice, Rudolph went to Spain, where he distinguished himself in the Battle of Gibraltar on November 3, 1340.
Returning to France, he helped his son-in-law (wife's brother) Carl Bloisch in the war for the Breton inheritance .
He died at the Battle of Crescy on August 26, 1346.
