The first video, directed by Gustavo Garzon, was filmed in 1995 and won the Lo Nuestro Award in the Video of the Year category; [1] and the second was filmed in August 1997 in France, its director was Christoph Gstalder.

The song reached number nine on the Hot Latin Songs in the USA in 1995.
Following the success of Maria in Europe, Te Extraño, Te Olvido, Te Amo was also released as a single in several European countries in September 1997. It peaked at number four in France and the Belgian Walloon and nineteenth in Switzerland. It was certified by Gold in France (373,000 copies sold) [2] and Belgium.
