Stevens, Thomas (historian)

Thomas Stephens ( born Thomas Stephens ; April 21, 1821 - January 4, 1875 ) is a Welsh historian.

The son of a shoemaker. He received almost no education, in 1835 he entered the apprenticeship as a pharmacist in the city of Merthyr Tydfil . Later he became the owner of a pharmacy, founded a library in the city, and organized charity institutions.

The main work of Stevens is the book The History of Welsh Literature ( English The Literature of the Kymry ; 1849 ), then translated into German by Albert Schulz . In addition, Stevens wrote The History of Trial by Jury in Wales and a pamphlet refuting the legend of the Welsh prince Madog sailing to America.
