The total length of the carapace reaches 10-15 cm. Sexual dimorphism is observed: females are larger than males. The head is of moderate size. The carapace is oval, roof-shaped. A keel stretches along the ridge, the tops of which (especially 3 and 4 vertebrae) stick out strongly and resemble cones painted in black. From here comes the Latin name of this turtle.
The color of the head, neck and limbs is black or dark brown. Head and neck are decorated with 2–4 yellow stripes. On the head they have a shape in the form of the letter "Y". Carapax is dark green in color. The plastron is yellowish with dark spots.
He likes water bodies with a moderate course, in particular rivers with clay and sandy bottoms. It feeds on insects, sponges, mollusks, and algae.
Females on a sandy beach lay 5 to 16 eggs in the wet sand on the shore. At a temperature of 27–28 ° C, the incubation period lasts 55–75 days. Spread
