Malem Niani ( French Malem Niani ) is a city and a commune in the central part of Senegal , in the territory of the Tambacunda region. It is part of the Kumpentum Department .

Geographical position
The city is located in the western part of the region, near the reserve of the same name, at a distance of approximately 329 kilometers east-southeast (ESE) from the capital of the country, Dakar . The absolute height is 36 meters above sea level [1] .
Population
According to estimates by the National Agency for Statistics and Demography of Senegal ( Agence nationale de la statistique et de la démographie ), the population of Kumpentum in 2009 was 2,408, of which 49.9% were men and 50.1% were women, respectively [2] .
Transport
The city has a railway station. The nearest airport is located in the city of Tambacunda [1] .
